Homosexuality- The Christian's Perspective

This article is to address a question I posed on social media recently:

"Does God love Homosexuals? Should homosexuals be accepted into the church?"

Somebody asked me: What prompted you to ask the question?

After researching and exploring the subject of homosexuality, I have discovered that there is incredible confusion existing on the subject, especially as it relates to the Christian's response when confronted with a question on the subject. As Christians we know we should hold a non-negotiable position, but we are not certain as to what that position should be. Some even ask, What would Jesus do?

There was a video clip that went viral on social media recently regarding a preacher's reaction when he noticed that there was a gay person in his audience. He proceeded immediately to publicly request that the person leaves the sanctuary without delay. This highlights the level of ignorance that exist in the religious landscape regarding a proper treatment of members of the LGBTQ community.

Many prominent preachers are tight-lipped on the subject for varying reasons, and so the religious community is screaming for a clear-cut and balanced discussion on the subject.

I hope this article lends clarification to your thoughts. The first question.

Does God love Homosexuals? The answer is an emphatic YES. And as followers of God we should too.

For us to understand the concept of homosexuality, we must first secure an understand of the term.

Definition of terms Homo is a Latin word that means man, or human. When it is used as a prefix, as in "homosexual," it comes from the Greek word homos, meaning the same. It is from the word "homosexual" that the noun homo is shortened and takes its second meaning — a derogatory term for a homosexual or gay man.(See Dictionary.com) Gay: The word Gay is used as a synonym for the word homosexual. Lesbian:  a homosexual woman. synonyms: homosexual woman, gay woman

This is the pivotal point in the discussion.

The word Homosexual has a two-pronged definition

Homosexual. noun. ho·mo·sex·u·al·i·ty | \ˌhō-mə-ˌsek-shə-ˈwa-lə-tē \

Definition of homosexuality :

1:  Homosexuality | Definition of Homosexuality by Merriam-Webster

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/homosexualityDefinition of homosexuality. Sexual attraction or the tendency to direct sexual desire toward another of the same sex : the quality or state of being homosexual.

In this first definition, the gay person has the tendency, but is not necessarily giving expression to the tendency or proclivity. This state of being is similar to the Christian single person who, like every normal human being, possesses sexual tendencies , but is not giving expression to those tendencies outside of marriage. Like this single person who is able to become a bonafide member, even holding office in the church, this gay person is no different. This person is able to hold membership and participate in important offices in the church.

I must hasten to state at this juncture that people may embrace the LGBTQ lifestyle for many reasons. Some argue that for them, it is an innate, deeply embedded urge with which they were born. Others may argue that because of flawed parenting, they were adversely affected mentally and emotionally. Still others claim that they just wanted to experiment with a novel idea. As a general rule, God policy is that you come as you are, but you don't have to remain as you are.

2 : Second definition: Sexual activity with another of the same sex.

sexual attraction or the tendency to direct sexual desire toward another of the same sex.

This is where the real issue is. Back to the previous analogy. If a single person, who like everyone else, not only possesses sexual urges, but is giving expression to their tendencies in sexual intercourse or activity, then such person will fall out of grace with the church. They are allowed to attend the church, but will not be allowed to hold active membership in, or participate in official positions in the church. The same principle applies to the gay person who is actually directing or giving expression to their sexual desire.

LGBTQ

But, some may reason, what if they are married? In God's jurisdiction, a man cannot be married to a person of the same sex. It goes without discussion. Take a look at the man's anatomy, and it is common sense that it was not made with an entrance to receive the organ of another man. What he has is an exit and not an entrance. It is as simple as going to HOMEDEPOT and asking for a male electrical socket and a female electrical socket, only to be given two of the same kind. They both CANNOT work jointly. Additionally, there is a preponderance of bible passages where the same-sex lifestyle is categorically rejected by heaven.

So, what should they do, considering they have such urges. I would advise them in the same manner as I would the Single person. A monogamous marital relationship is the only legitimate sexual union recognized by God.

1. Marriage (heterosexual relationship) is honorable and the bed undefiled (italics supplied) Hebrews 13: 4.

2.Don't you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don't fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality (1. Corinthians 6:9. NLT).

Like some of the singles mentioned in scripture, the apostle Paul, Dorcas, and Jesus himself, God's power is able to subdue all sexual urges and keep his people chaste and pure before Him. There are more benefits to derive from living a life of purity and righteousness in this life than selling our bodies on the altar sexual immorality and lust. It is a treasure of inestimable worth to be able to live a life 'void of offence towards God and man'.

How should Christians relate to homosexuals?

Like our Master, the watchword is love. Jesus came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. We should make a deliberate effort to demonstrate love and wisdom in our treatment of those of the LGBTQ community. It is still the Christian's mantra, that the best way to express our discipleship is to love everyone, regardless of race, class, creed, ethnicity or lifestyle. Every homosexual is a possible candidate of the heavenly kingdom, and should be treated as such.

He hates the sin, but He loves the sinner.
